What Guides Our Work
Animal overpopulation is a critical issue in DC and across the country. By supporting spay/neuter services for DC residents’ pets, community cats, as well as shelter pets we can help stem the overpopulation issue. This effort will also require public education and outreach to make a real impact. (Why spay/neuter is important? What are the benefits? How do I access services near me?) We still have a long way to go with changing the understanding around the urgency of spay/neuter services.
Behavior issues can be challenging and may become a reason pets end up in the shelter. We want to help prevent that by providing better training and behavior education resources for the public, including adopters. This approach aims to keep animals out of the shelter and with their families.
We believe that cats don’t always get the level of care they deserve in the animal welfare system. By connecting community cat caretakers to TNR programs and avenues to adoption for kittens and friendly outdoor cats, we can really make a difference to the lives of DC felines. We want to be partners with the public and the shelter system to help improve the lives of DC cats!
One of the greatest ways to help improve the lives of animals is to help them stay out of the shelter and in their homes. That’s why we are passionate about addressing issues related to access to affordable vet care, pet-friendly housing, behavior and training education for pet owners, and assisting with providing pet food and supplies to those who need it. By addressing the issue from many angles, we can have a much greater impact. We are excited to be part of upstream solutions!
