Founded in September 2024 by a passionate group of local animal lovers, the Friends of DC Animals is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of DC animals and the people who love them. The group is comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds who have spent years working for and volunteering with various animal shelters and rescue organizations. This cumulative experience gives us unique insight into the needs of companion animals and their owners, as well as the shelter, medical, and community services and resources required to provide high-quality, humane care.

We believe that animal welfare is deeply connected to human welfare, social justice, and the overall health and wellbeing of our city. Join us as we work to make DC a leader in animal welfare and a kinder, more compassionate city.
