Helping DC’s animals and the people who love them.

Creating a Caring Community

Each year, thousands of animals are touched by the animal welfare system in DC. Whether they come into the shelter, receive spay/neuter services, or their owners are given education and resources to provide better care, animals rely on the system to help improve (and save!) their lives.

While the DC government funds some of the services needed, the number of animals and people in need in DC far outweighs the resources available. That’s where the Friends of DC Animals (FODA) comes in. We are here to help bridge the gap between the budget and the need, as well as advocate for best practices in animal welfare both in the shelter and in the community.

We hope you will join us as we work to ensure the best care and services for DC’s animals — together.

Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened,

Why it Matters

Animal welfare is a complex issue and requires a holistic solution in any community, particularly one as diverse as Washington, DC. It requires coordination and cooperation from the public, DC government, animal welfare organizations/groups, local businesses, and organizations like ours.
